What is Hack for Earth at COP28?

Hack for Earth at COP28 is a global hackathon held online and at the COP28 event in Dubai, United Arab Emirates during December 1 – December 3, with focus on finding real solutions to the Climate Change challenges. Throughout the hackathon all teams will brainstorm, develop concepts and work together to create a solution that is in line with the jury criteria and that could be implemented to become real tools for the good of society.

All team members have access to mentors, workshops, open data, information on relevant subjects and other support from the partner community to be able to create the best solutions.

The hackathon have 8 challenge categories that teams choose from to compete in.

How do I join Hack for Earth?

Anyone can join Hack for Earth, in fact the whole point of citizen-driven innovation is that no specific profession is needed to save us from climate disaster, instead we need everyone to join in with their expertise!

You can join Hack for Earth solo or as a team, and if you want to work in a team but don't have one, we offer Meet & Match sessions where you can find teammates.

The 8 challenge categories

All of the challenges have important aspects of climate change, and are chosen because of their urgency with which we need to solve them.

Each hacker team choose only one challenge and within that challenge your formulate a specific problem which you hack. You have to formulate a specific problem within a challenge yourself. The task is to find is to find a solution to a specific problem and submit it.

Mentors

We will provide expert mentors in several fields of expertise to all hackathon teams. They will be available during the hackathon to support you in your work to create a winning solution.

When to submit?

The deadline is on the 3rd of December (Sunday) at
7:00 PM GST Gulf Standard Time
6:00 PM EAT Eastern Africa Time
4:00 PM CET Central European Time
You can use this link to convert the time to your country time

What to submit?

•The submission format will be a ** max. 2 min video.** Not a PDF, or a text document or other material.
•The video can be a recorded screen of your presentation or a video when you show other type of material like drawings, images, etc..
•The video can be portrait or landscape.
•It's fine if you work on making a Power Point or other format of a digital presentation. Then you can record yourself presenting your power point slides.
•You can also film yourself talking without any power point.
•It is totally up to you if you want only one person to present in the video or more. You decide.
•Make sure that you explain your solution in a very clear way so the jury will understand you.
•The jury will judge based on their criteria. Read the criteria here.
